Aux fans not coming on on 1995 C280
 

I'm not sure what controls the aux fans on my C280, I've checked all the fuses and can't find any blown. I've taken out the condensor and cleaned it along with new thermostat and anti freeze.
Still the car is running around 110.
The fans used to kick on around 100 degrees, but today they wern't coming on at all.
Can anyone tell me what controls the aux fans in my car?

There are 2 relays in the rear section of the underhood fuse box for the aux fans. The blue relay is for low speed A/C pressure turn-on. & there is a green one for high speed.

Low speed runs thru a ballast resistor.

Thanks, can you tell me if this is common for both of them to just quit working? The car has been running hot for about two weeks now, but up until now the fans were kicking on so I thought it must be something else. But yesterday neither of them came on at all, and the temp was about 110.
Now that I think of it I didn't have the A/C running yesterday when I noticed that the fans wern't coming on. So it may just be the high speed relay that isn't working. I'll investigate it some more and post another reply as to what I find out.

I have the same problem. I still have it. I couldn't fix it yet.

I have two 124s, one coupe and a sedan. Both car aux fans broke at the same time. The coupe was easy, it was the aux fan fuse. The sedan took longer to solve, the problem was the relays behind the fuse box

Sorry to bump this thread. But, I'm so glad it exists!

So I was using my a/c for once and rarely use it. I noticed my normal temp of 85C went to 110C.

I got home popped the hood while the car was on and the fans were not on. I came by here and found this post.

I checked the fuse box... BOTH my 15A and 30A (blue and green) fuses are burned out.

I replaced them and fired the car up with my a/c on and boom..... fan kicks in. Yes I did say... FAN not FANS...

One fan isn't working (the one closer to the passenger side doesn't). Is this normal for when you have a parked car with the a.c on? It seemed like the fan kicked in when the temp hit over 80C. Then when it went back to 80 or below it would turn off.

I do know the fan that isn't working was broken off once. Then it was glued back in place and it does spin if you turn it yourself.

I wonder if the fan broke off at one point and overloaded the fan motor and it blew the fuses? Sadly.. I could've been driving this car for a year or more without the fans!!!.....

Try plugging in the fan that isn't working into the other fan's plug and vice versa. If the fan works with the other plug and the fan that was working isn't, then you've just narrowed it down to the connection/fuse/wiring on the passenger side. If the fan that wasn't working still isn't working and the other one does, then the problem is the fan motor.

Do you know roughly where the fan plug is located?
