93 190e, hmm?

Points of interist on a little 190e? Going to look over one this weekend.
Been away from Mercedes for awhile, figure maybe something a little newer and gas for a change. Car has 320K-ish and is extremely well kept and documented by a local shop since new.

320k? DAMN! Just keep looking for one with lower miles. They are pretty easy to come by. is it the 2.6 or 2.3?

Kind of funny hearing that from old Mercedes drivers. I'd expect that on, say, a ford taurus board..

Seriously though, my last three had 286K, 220K and 375K each, though they were diesels. My BMW was about 230K and it was a gasser, heck this Volvo turbo wagon I have now is the only thing I've ever had with under 150K on it(and it needed a motor, go figure). This 190 has exceptional service history and compression and leak down are both spot-on. Head's been done, trans been done, why the concern over the miles? It don't look it to say the least.
Is the chassis's longevity somehow inferior to w123/126 cars?
Every other 190e I come across, with half the miles or less, is pretty much ragged and on it's 5th owner. This is on it's 2nd owner, and I was there when he bought it.

2.3 auto, have a line on a 5spd car to swap it over already. Not a big fan of an auto, and the 190's are slow enough as it is.
It really is an amazingly well kept car, nobody would ever guess it had half the miles it does.

The only thing that would concern me is the structural integrity of the car. Remember, this is coming from somebody in the Rustbelt.
Mileage has never scared me away from a vehicle.

NC car, so no rust at all, wouldn't touch it if there was.
MY VW pickup has 600K and some rust and it don't bend, surely a Merc is sound with a paltry 300K... Heck they make badges for it, they must have expected atleast a few to go that long..

hahah
uhhh
the 2.3 is the least desirable 190e. Get a 2.6 with lower miles. The milage concern is not only driveline wise but over-all interior, paint, electronics etc...
If you have to replace 4 $50 window regulators, a $100 dash, $300 suspension parts, it all adds up. You might as well get one with LOWER MILES

Chuni. why would the number of miles affect the electronics, they are still only 14 years old no matter how many miles there are. With that many miles it is most likely a highway car which is normally a good thing compared to all that stop and go crap. So in the end driveline and suspension should be all he is concerned about. And we all know Merc's can handle the miles.

You've never owned any old Euro cars, have you?
Here's how it works, you buy car, spend twice what you could ever dream to get out of it selling, then get bored and get another one, either trading said car out or selling at a loss. It's a hobby, in addition to nifty transportation.
Saying find one with lower miles is kinda silly on 15+ year old Euro car.

On this one, the paint is nice as any twenty-ish year old car, nicer than most. Ditto interior save for one door panal and B pillar cover. No dash cracks. Needs a drivers seat spring. I work at a salvage yard, parts are cheap.
Honestly I wouldn't go looking for a 190 at all, but this one came along, and it has service records like my last 300D did. (read: lots, and lots)

Anyway, pretend it has 150K on it.
*Now* tell me about 190e's.

Haven't got it yet. If I do it will probly be some shape or form of trade or barter. I try and not ever actually "buy" cars.

I do know the current owner is the 2nd owner, and bought it from the europ shop he was a tech at, original owner had it maintained there all it's life since new and decided to go buy a new one(Dr.).

Ignore the miles. If it checks out OK, I say go for it. Odometers can be misleading and sometimes you just have to ignore them.

hahah? Are you guys kidding me? Im talking about nickel and dime ****. Blower motors, speedo cables, shifter bushings etc... All that crap wears out weather you drive it on the highway or in town. The mileage reflects how much use the electronics have gotten. Motors EVENTUALLY wear out. Plain and simple. This guy is talking about it like the only thing your odometer reflects is miles on the engine. If the engine has just been worked on/replaced, thats fine. But the chassis still has that high mileage on it. Im just saying, its really not hard to come by 190es. So if you can get this one on the CHEAP for 1500 or something, why not just shell out the other 2k for a nice example with lower miles? Save yourself some headaches later on down the road man.
