Does anyone have any knowledge of M-B junkyards within hailing distance of San Francisco, especially of the u-pull-it variety? I may be there in a few weeks with a day or to to spare Many thanks.

Hi Doug, just thought I would let you know that out here on the left coast, junkyards went the way of political correctness. The are now refered to as auto dismantlers. Oh for the good old days! If you get to the Los Angeles area, there is a good MB junkyard in the San Fernando Valley, and it depends on the mood they are in whether they will let you DIY. If you need some older parts, check with either Henry Magno or Bob Gunthorp that just joined the ponton group. They are both a good source for recycled parts. You might also ask about junkyards on the ponton group, a couple of the guys live up in that area. Enjoy your trip, Ed

Pull it yourself and MBZ don't go hand in hand out here unless it is a really old clunker. There are at least 3 sites in San Jose (50 miles South)that have decent MBZ wrecks, but they aren't cheap and they do the pulling. Why don't you post what you need?

try http://www.silverstarrecycling.com

They are near sacramento area, and should not be too far from san fran.

If you make it to Sacramento right next to Silver star is a U pull it. It usually has about 30 or 40 hulks out there. Vintage usually runs early 70's to late 80's. There are another three or four in the area, some under the name of Pick n Pull. I have found my throttle kick down switch 4$ Headrests 10$ Electronic distributor and ignition box (to convert from points) 40$ . You will not find sl's or glamour cars but can find some decent hard parts.

Douglas, Sacramento is about 2 hours north of
San Francisco, but silverstar recyling is good.
check out their website before you venture out.

In Oakland, 20 min east of San Fran (if you hit traffic
crossing the Bay Bridge ,it may take you 2 hours! :( )
there is a joint named All Mercedes. I don't like them and there website always crashes your computer.
There may be other yards that have foreighn cars in Berkeley.
Not any in San Fran that have Mercedes. Not to my experience.

try http://www.craigslist.com
a popular site for listing stuff. maybe someone will answer your parts wanted ad or better yet you may prevent a dotcommer from jumping out the window by buying his/her
MBZ fer dirt cheep!! :)
I am in San Diego for the duration of June.

Douglas,

There's a pick-n-pull on Commercial between 13th and Berryessa in San Jose. There was a fairly complete 116 there a couple of weeks ago. There's another one on Trade Zone between Montague and Capitol in San Jose. I haven't been there in a while, but they've had 108s and 114s. There's yet another one on the Hayward end of the San Mateo bridge. It's a huge lot so I'm sure they'll have MBs.

As was mentioned in another reply, post what car you have and what you need. This list is an incredible resource.
