Please identify this fuse
It's near the battery of my 95 E320. I was poking around and found what looks like a fuse that is blown. What does this fuse protect?

Looks like the fuse for the climate control blower on a 126 chassis. Not sure if it is the same for your model? Are there any large consumers of electricity that are not working? Thats probably the fuse for it.

My climate control works. I've been poking around because my cabriolet top and seat belt presenters recently stopped working within a day of each other. I don't know how long this fuse was in this broken condition. Bridging the two pieces doesn't seem to affect anything.

A fuse that size is usally for a blower motor of some sort.

If you look closely you should see the amp rating stamped on the metal.
In my W126 this is the 30 amp fuse for my blower motor. |

How about the electric cooling fans in front of the radiator. You may not notice them not working unless conditions are right.

I checked the cooling fans with the a/c on -- both fans are working.
I checked the high-speed blower motor -- fan blows high. Again, bridging the two pieces didn't seem to affect anything. The mystery continues.

This is a fuse for the blower motor. The reason your blower is working is most likely because there is a parallel pathway to the blower. In my 260E, there are actually two fuses in parallel, I never quite understood the reason for doing this. Current to the blower can flow thru either of these fuses. The fact that this fuse blew tells me that at one point, the current exceeded 30A and the other fuse survived it and this one did not.

The large fuse should be heated seats. The others are for a dealer installed cell phone.

O.K. that also explains why the blower motor is working, the holder looks very much like the one for the blower motor on a 87, 260E.

My heated seats still work. But I did discover today that I can't manually raise the rollover bars. I also reviewed my owners manual cabriolet supplement. It actually mentions the two sets of fuses in the supplement (but no ther detail), so they must be specific to the cabriolet.
By the way, where could I get a replacement fuse?

Mystery solved - it's for the rollover bar
I burn more gas to go to the dealer than I pay for shipping. But it looks like I'll have to make a trip there some time.
Anyhow, the mystery is solved. The fuse is for the rollover bar manual operation. It must've blown when I was last using it a couple of weeks ago. The rollbars were nearly retracted when the fuse blew. They looked fully retracted to me. The cabriolet top won't work unless the rollbars are in fhe full-down position.
