Instrument cluster lit up, then car overheated...

Hey everyone. I need some help with this one, car is a 1992 m103 300E. I was driving home today and at a stop I noticed that my ABS light blipped on. I was stationary when it turned on so I grew a little concerned. Less than a minute later, when I was rolling again, most of the warning lamps on the cluster illuminated, but not fully, only a dim glow. The temperature needle quickly started moving towards 120 so I pulled into a parking lot and walked home. After letting it cool I came back, topped off the coolant (it was only a little low, I assume a bit boiled off through the overflow drain) and drove it home no problem. Does anyone have any ideas on the problem? I did notice the battery terminals were a bit loose and I have tightened those.

Other issues I have been having that may help in diagnosing the problem:
-Cruise control intermittently stops working, sometimes when it does work it will deviate more than normal from the desired speed or will be slow to engage.
-Engine sounds strange, instead of a constant hum at idle there are discrete sound events, more like a quickly idling motorcycle. The car was running rich and this sound appeared after my tech changed the fuel/air ratio.
-Intermittent hum (louder and higher frequency than usual) coming from the fuel pump area. Using a stethoscope I tracked it down to the fuel screen, but after a cleaning the sound is still there.
-Belt shredding as documented in a previous post.
