My electric fans never turn on, even in town. I just wonder at what engine temperature they should kick in and how to test whether they work or not?
Many Thanks Martin Wollny http://www.motorsnippets.com |
Assuming the car is a 1994 model, the fans(low speed) should come on with A/C whenever the pressure is 225 lbs@sqin or higher. The engine temp switch is set for 107C to turn the fans to high speed! If the low speed fans aren't working there is a relay in the rear section of the fuse box that has a plug-in fuse. BLUE relay, try replacing fuse!

Benzmac...
I have a 92 400e, with the same problem. I just replaced my engine wiring harness as all the wires were corroded and I thought this could be the problem. Well, it wasn't. The fans don't kick on with the AC or when the car gets over 107c. Does this car have the relay too, and should I check this before changing the temp sensor? Thanks..Peter |
Did you try unplugging the two pin coolant sensor. If the fans don't turn on, you most likely have a bad fuse or relay. Vinamg |
Thanks everybody. I've just been driving the car and I checked the fans. They work when air-conditioning is on so I just suppose that my car never hits 107 degrees.
Forgot to mention - the reason that I was not sure about the temperature is because of the faulty gauge. It shows 50 degrees when the temperature should be around 80. Martin Wollny http://www.motorsnippets.com 93 E500 72 280SE 3.5 manual |
