air in oil

what could cause air in engine oil?

MattBelliveau 08-23-2007 12:37 PM

Crankcase overfilled.

Crankshaft is whipping oil to a froth.

Hatterasguy 08-23-2007 01:43 PM

To much in the sump, the crank is whipping it up. Drain some off.

yep....

over full crankcase could be as a result of a leaky head gasket filling it with coolant too.

where to go for engine parts

My girl will be out of the road obviously with all this issues might as well not go there. Do any of you guys know where I can find parts such as lifters and pistons? I want to find out what's cheaper a rebuild or a engine swap? I've mostly been told to swap. I can get an engine for less than 1G, but from different models. I would like to keep the original engine, but money is an issue so depending on part pricing and labor.

Thanks

It's an '83 280se Euro.

Would an 85 MB 500 engine fit my car? I found one pretty cheap, milage 142k. Also, found an '82 MB 380 SE 148k, not tested.

Whats wrong with the motor?

Dominicanvirus 08-26-2007 02:39 PM

serveral issues, apart from barely having any power, we got oil leaks, blown head gasket probably. It's just too many issues with it.

Thanks.

Anyway any replacement engine you find will be 25 years old and have just as many issues. Will that old M117 fit? Yeah, but it will need work. Probably at least timing chain and tensoner's, before it goes in.

Fix what you have keep the car original. Pull the head and send it out. Fix any major oil leaks, the bottem end is probably fine.

Thanks Hatterasguy. I"m kind of happy with your answer, hopefully i'll feel the same way when I'm doing the work. send the head where?

Hatterasguy 08-27-2007 06:05 PM

I'd send it out for at least valve seals if not a valve job, depending on mileage. Metric Motors does the best work on the diesels, I would imagin they do good work on the gas ones as well.
