That doesnt sound good. Sorry to hear about it.

Well, before was it cracked or was there a good size rock chip?

Another possibility (which i honestly doubt!) is someone tried to shoot you when you were getting out of your car and missed and hit your window. JK

Anyway, yes you can buy a used window at junk yard. Potomac has a lot of stuff, there is tri star pete, adsit, etc. I dont know the cost of new vs used window for your car.

You need to take the door skin off to change the window. Just make sure you vaccum really really good, otherwise you might cut yourself trying to install the new window.

You said you broke the "front window", is that your door window or windshield? If it is your windshield, don't even think about changing it yourself. Call around and get estimates. You'll be surprised as to the price range.

I had that happen to me once when I had my 1983 GMC Jimmy. I closed the door and the glass just up and shattered into a million little pieces.

It could be that a hairline fracture was at the base of the glass and one good thunk was all it needed to break completely..

Fortunately, it's "safety glass", designed to shatter into harmless pebbles, instead of dagger-like shards the way window panes do. So if you miss a few while vacumming, no harm is done.

I still find a piece or two when stripping the Bug interior...from a break-in that occurred over a decade ago!
