W124 headlights

so using the regular 9004 bulbs i have difficulty seeing at night while driving, so i decided to upgrade my bulbs to the nokya 90/100 9004 arctic purple bulbs and they looked soo good at night i could actually see! i toook them out because the heat was melting the plastic part of the harness a little and i kept having to take the bulb out and cleaning the plastic so as it would light the bulb again. this morning iw anted to put the purple bulbs back in and i tried but when i turned on the light switch they didnt turn on! what should i do?? any suggestions?

A Lesson in Basic Electric Wiring

You have just discovered what happens when you exceed the rated capacity of the wire and connector.

You should replace the connector with a HD type designed for double the wattage of the std lamps (30 amp rating) upgrade the stock wiring to 12 ga minimum (10 would be better).

Basic deal is you fried the connector and or the wiring and or the fuse/fuselink or the relay or any 2,3 or all 4.

Start with the headlamp wiring at the connector then the fuse, then the relay.

To answer your questions:

1. Piece of cake. I've done it for the 2 W124 that I own and it couldn't be easier;

2. For one car I bought Bosch Euros from Performance and for the second I bought DEPO from a place in Simi Valley, Calif. As soon as I locate the invoice, I will let you know.

Further to #1 above, there are plenty of threads here outlining the procedures. Also there are plenty of people here who have done it who can help you.

Good luck!

1) No. Do a search.

2) http://www.katmac.com OR http://www.importvision.com/

I bought mine from Importvision (thanks for the reminder YAL).

They sell DEPO and I think that katmac sells the other brand.

I prefer DEPO as an aftermarket product.

There's a difference?

OK American vs Euro head lights.

Is there really a difference?

I thought it was all about appearance.

Perhaps I should craw back in my hole, and cover my head.

If you have an E320 or E420 (94-95) there is hardly a difference BUT if you have a 190E, 260E, 300E or 400E (all pre-94's), the difference is literally night and day! :)

Crawling into the hole won't make a difference...we'll still find 'ya! :D

YAL hit it on the head. For the pre-94 Benzes (E and C classes), the difference is like night and day.

Good luck.

124 headlights

I was all set to do the euro conversion when my tech persuaded me to try using something called "Silver Star" bulbs in the stock headlights at 40 bucks apiece first. They make a huge difference. Now I can see the Philly potholes right before I land in them.
