Dreaded Rear Window Regulator Failure
It was due and now the 98E300 rear window regulator has failed. I have some specific questions before I pull it and put a new one in.
The cable came of the wheel, I can see the wheel (pulley) and it either has a crack in it or a slot. I don't guess there is any sense in trying to put the cable back on the wheel and have to take it apart in another week? The regulator is rivited in. Will a new one come with screws? I tape the window up and drill out the rivits? Can anyone recommend where to buy a new one? Is there anything I should fix or oil while I have the door open? Thanks |
I've done this....
and I got the parts from Phil at the site above where it says "Buy Parts". I drilled our the old rivets and bought a heavy-duty riveter from Sears to install the new ones. You really have to squeeze hard to pop those new rivets.
I seem to remember a slot for catching the loose end of the cable but can't be sure. This is not such a tough job. Just go slow and put things back in reverse order. There is a lot of info on this forum about how to do this. Try a search on W210 windo regulator for starters. |
Do a search. Here is a thread that might help:

Thanks, blocked it up waiting and for the new regulator. Doesn't look like a problem.
I guess I can plan on doing the other rear window this year. |
For some reason.....
it seems like the left rear widow suffers this failure first. So far that's the only one on my car that has failed.
