1999 S320 How to remove the Oil Filter

hi guys,
has anyone out there worked on a 1999 S320 and changed the Oil Filter ?
I really need to know how to get that plastic cap off, if that's what it is.
I looked at the oil change instructions and pictures at the V12 Uber Alles webiste, and it is nothing at all even similar to the S320.

anyone ?

thanks,
Kevin Rea

It requires an oil filter "wrench" to remove.

If you've got a strong grip you might get it off by hand.

There is a filter wrench...

that you can buy. Fit an extended 3/8 inch socket drive into it and undo by turning counter clockwise. Mine is a Vector, part number 17001 and is marked 76/14 which I think means 76 mm and 14 sides. I don't remember where I got it - probably at an auto parts store. It is not necessary to really torque the cap down after changing the filter. I do hand-tight plus 1/4 turn and don't have a leak. Also, loosen this all the way before you drain/extract the old oil so that the filter will give up the oil it holds.

It uses the same wrench as the V12 actualy. I am sure there are aftermarket wrench's that would work. But you can get the offical one, which is rather nice from your friendly local dealer for $30.

Do not overtighten, you will strip the threads.
