260e mpg
 

I have had this 1988 260e for the last 10 months.. have only put about 6000 miles on it, so I usually fill up at the half way mark and never checked mileage.

ran it a lot this week and did... only got 19 mpg in mostly highway driving.

I know the CE gets 24-25 on the highway.

could this be a function of high mileage and the fact that it needs valve stem seals?

engine runs perfectly. 212k miles.

mpg is low
 

My 300E got 25-26 mpg on hwy at 350K miles. You may need O2 sensor or a lambda adjustment-some mechanic may have played with it. Valve seals should not make that much diff. Locate the problem first.
