98'C280: Drive shaft play
Car has 122Kmiles.
There is some play while turning the front and rear sections of the drive shaft against each other (left hand turning rear section clockwise, right hand turning front half counter clock wise for example). There is no play at the flex disc, only between the drive shaft halves. It suspect that this indicates a worn drive shaft. If so, is this not unusual for a car with 122Kmiles? Is there a repair kit or similar available to repair, or must this be done at a shop that specializes in drive shaft repair/remanufacture (such as some online shops advertising MB drive shafts) ? I looked on 'Buy Parts' link above and found a 'drive shaft bushing', but I don't know if this would be it or not. Thanks |

So anyone know about the two piece drive shaft and how much play there should be between the halves? The play now is between 1/8 and 1/4 of a turn.
Thanks. |

There should be no play between the two shafts.

Thanks for the reply. Is there a repair kit av available? I found a drive shaft bushing in the Buy Parts link above, wonder if that's it.
