Fusible link deal and no blower motor
 

Blower started working intermitantly on the 400E so I did a search and as far as I went, it looked like the control unit was suspect. I tore it out of the car, inspected for bad solder joints, could find none, cleaned it and put it back in the car. Still no workee. Tried the unit out of the TE in the 400,,, still no good. Pulled the wiper assembly out of the 400, put 12 volts to the blower motor, and it worked fine. Went back in the house, searched a bit more and came upon the fusible link deal in front of the fuse box. Sure enough, it had a crack in it and was making contact some time. The 1 minute fix took me about 4 hours:D, but the site saved me again. Thanks to all,,, and my wife thanks you too. Really makes me look like a hero some times.;) Next time I will read all the posts in the search before I start tearing things apart.

i sort of did much of what you did once...

the tough part is i had two spare "fuses" in my parts bin (because of this issue)... i never detected a problem with the old fuse...i just think the contacts needed cleaning.. i replaced it anyway..

every always says check the obvious... sometimes we just don't do it.

The best test for those strip fuses is to test both sides with a 12v test lamp while you have the key ON and fan set to high position [ Defrost] These fuses will pass a DMM continuity test and conduct fine with no load , but as soon as there is a current draw from the blower , they stop conducting. I see this fuse fool a lot of experienced guys..it is always my first 'No Blower" test..
It is common for any poor connection to break contact only under load ...the aux Fan resistor terminals are another example of the same type condition. As are the Benz type fuses..you give them a spin and off you go.
