m119 timing with strobe light
Hi guys,
Does anybody know where strobe light mark has to be on the harmonic damper? I know that timing is electronic. Electronics work as you can see that light moves once in a while for brief on harmonic balancer. My mechanic says light has to be on 0 degree and mine stays at 15 or something. Engine seems to run OK. Readings were taken on idle. I feel that engine doesnt have enough power for 5.0. And car is VERY sluggish when it gets hotter. 90-100 degrees. I think it is timing related since timing is adjusted according to engine temp. I changes temp sensor but have same problem. Please help Thank you |
forgot to say the car is 1992 500sel 5.0 m119 172k

Should be around 12 deg BTDC at idle & jump to 25-30 as the RPM goes up.
IF you use fuel with less than 91 octane the knock sensors will retard that timing & you will see those readings DROP instead of going UP. |
Thanks MB Doc
