1988 300TE -- Squeak while driving?

Hi guys,

I recently got the two front tires replaced and ever since (at least I think) it has been squeaking while driving. It sounds like an old squeaky chair that rocks. It happens 75% of the time while driving between 5-25mph consistantly without stopping before it either stops or gets drowned out by the sound of driving faster.

Also, I have replaced my pads+rotors and I am getting this horrible grumble as I come to a stop along with a very fast, but loud squeak as soon as I tap the brakes. It only happens on first tap, but I am assuming that is just the pads, and not related to this grumble and squeaking while driving.

Could this be my wheel bearing going out? I looked in the manual and it looks like my 300TE has a strange way that is not DIY removable.

Any suggestions on what it could be?

Thanks, ps2cho

Squeaking while driving is most likely your ball joints. Check to see if the ball joint boot is ripped. Sometimes the grease gets dry and they start to squeak. Replace them ASAP.

Just bumping the thread. It doesn't do it all the time which is weird. Then all of a sudden it starts and it only does it when driving straight or turning right....the harder the right turn, the louder it squeaks.

Any other ideas other than the ball joints? I popped off that black cap and regreased the bearing inside there which seemed fine.

I was just reading the how-to for replacing the ball joints...and it looks dangerous...

With the very large amount of time and difficulty replacing it, I want to make sure its that.

The weird thing is that it started happening about a week after I had both front tires replaced at Pep Boys. If this is coincedence then whatever...but could there be any chance that they damaged it? Would jacking the car up on something that it shouldn't be jacked up on possibly do this? Again it only squeaks going straight or right (harder the right turn, the louder it gets).
