can anyone walk me through replacing or modifying a power seat cable that is stretched and not working? do the cables just pull out or do the motors have to be removed?

I believe the cable assy can be disconnected from the seat transmission and the cable replaced, or the cable/housing combo will have to be replaced. Some are swaged on at both ends, others are not. Depends on the car. You may have to get this from a dealer or a junkyard. Not a commonly called for part. At any rate, the best way to approach this is to remove the seat and see what you are dealing with.

A simple method of repair is to leave them in place and cut a quarter inch out of the middle (of only the housing, of course). Take a 3in of rubber fuel line and slit it up one side. Roll this over the break in the housing and place two hose clamps over each end. It makes a very functional repair.
