Noise from Drive belt and a Loud Ticking Sound W124
Hi all,
I have recently changed out the Belt tensioner damper and WITHOUT changing the tensioner due to the high dealer price. As they put it back, they tighten the belt to remove the slackness. Prior to this there wasn't any belt slips or squeek even thought the belt had 2 inch of play when pulled upwards. After the changed, the tensioner itself split and the belt became totally lose after 3 weeks of new stress on it . Had to have it changed out again. more $$$ Now I have no more slack in the belt, can't even pull it up for 1 mm. But I have this new Loud tick that is constant and a light squeek with every turn. Belt is new. Question: 1) Can a belt be over tighten? If so how do I release some tension 2) What can cause a ticking sound if not from the engine bloc. Sound loud and audible with bonnet open. But not in car Thanks all!
