1999 C230 Cruise Switch Replacement

I've done a search - honest - and I couldn't find anything related.

I need to remove and replace my cruise control switch on the steering column.

Is there a write up or a guide on this?

Thanks.

I just did this on a 2000 C230. I used the guide here:

http://202tech.mkosonen.com/howto/steering.html

I got the switch from Phil for I think $85. Needed a half inch adapter and a 24 inch breaker bar to break the wheel nut loose. I was in the car holding the steering wheel while my daughter outside the door leaned on the breaker bar to get it to pop loose. Have the wheel straight ahead, make the spline and the wheel before you remove it. You will also need the wheel ahead to get the two screws off to remove the clock spring assembly. On a land rover site I read a precaustion to disconnect the battery and wait 15 minutes, to make sure the voltage was disapaited before touching the airbag. The wire snakes through the colum and connect to the ignition switch connector. Take your time, be careful with the airbag connection. I left the lower panel under the driver side dash connected to the hood release, just let it hang down enough to remove the padded panel above it. It took me a little over an hour, could do one in 15 minutes now.

Thank you very much.

I did the repairs today successfully and I am happy to report that my cruise now works and there were no trips to the emergency room
