No high beams/glove compartment light stays on

When I push the turn signal lever away from me, the low beams turn off and there are no high beams (just the side lights are lit). When i pull the lever towards me, the high beams flash like they are supposed to. Is there a problem with the turn signal lever in the high beam position or could it be something else?

My glove compartment light comes on at the first position on the ignition switch and stays on until the ignition is in the off position, day or night. I cannot find an on/off switch for the glove compt light...any suggestions?

The combo switch has three postions, high beam, low beam, and flash.
Normally the power from the headlamp switch is split either high or low then run thru fuses 13/14 adn 15/16 for low or high beam. On flash power comes via the combo switch and by a feed from fuse 2. Given you say high works on flash, and low works that means all the fuses and bulb filaments work. Thus the combo switch is suspect.

as for the glove compartment switch I think you need to disassemble I think the switch is outside the box and is clicked on when the door opens by the sliding hinge assembly.

Thanks! Just as you said, all my fuses look good so I might just blast some WD-40 into the combo switch before i take it all apart.

I temporarily took the bulb out of the glove box so the lens doesn't start melting but i noticed this morning that my window swtches were lit up too - maybe this is related to the problem. I replaced the courtesy lamp bulb over the rear seat a couple of weeks back - it still doesn't come on but i wonder if there's something funky going on with that circuit that's causing all these other lamps to come on. Can anyone shed any 'light' on all this?

I had what i thought was an unrelated problem with my heater controls. Peter suggested i disconnect my aux pump and when i did, all sorts of good things happened. The heater controls all seem to do what they are supposed to, the recirc switch is now working and much to my surprise, the high beam position now works on the combo switch!

My glove compt light still comes on with the ignition switch but that's no biggee - i now have a much safer car. Maybe this will solve some more of my problems and hopefully other owners' problems too. Thanks Peter!

The swtich for the glove box light is in the cover for the lamp -- a post sticking straight out. If it's broken off, you need a new assembly (or to go dumpster diving at a U-Pullit). If it's there, make sure the glove box door is closing all the way and the box itself is attached (eight little plastic "push lock plugs". The latch bar is held in place by two screws that go into a captive plate hooked over the metal frame -- if not in place or not hooked, the door won't close far enough. Also, the screws for the hinge can pull out with use.
