Fast idle when cold
Folks,
Thanks for the great opportunity. I have a 1979, 450 SLC, 4.5Ltr, V-8, Auto. with 98K original miles. When the car is cold, but not necessarily cold outside, the engine will start immediately, then begin to idle @ 1500RPMS or more until it warms up. Now, I had a 1974 SLC that I bought brand new in 1973, and I never remember having to wait while the engine warmed @ 1500RPMS I have tried to solve this with multiple mechanics and even called Mercedes Benz in New Jersey, and the comment I got was "maybe timing?" I do not know much about cars, but otherwise, the car runs like new. Thanks, RB |

Hmm. I think that is totally normal. I'm trying to sort out my 71 so that it WILL do that! I think these are supposed to have an initial high idle.

fast idle
Hey thanks, but This does not seem normal.
I remember my '74 starting smoothly, watching the oil pressure guage rise, and I was off! Now, I have to wait a considerable amount of time before the idle drops to where I can shift into Drive, without gears slamming Thanks |
