Unhappy engine lurching - '94 c280

here's my tale of woe:
had an oil change done, but they stopped halfway through after cracking my oil cap and not being able to get my air filter off of my 1994 c280. (this was at a mobil station where i had had oil changes before, but now it was a total new crew.) of course, i was not happy, and i was cluckin' around like an expecting hen! anyway, they had already emptied the oil, so they put in some, didn't check the level, and basically said "enjoy your free oil change." i asked if she was all right to drive, the manager said she'd be fine til my next oil change. i had him write out the oil they added and sign a receipt, which was merely a piece of paper he came up with.
i drove the car about twenty miles that day -- without incident. however, the very next day, she started lurching. at stops, she starts to rev and move forward -- this didn't happen all the time, but enough. my "check engine" light came on the next morning. i went in for a proper oil change that afternoon, and they said that it didn't look like she had the 6.5 quarts that was stated in the receipt, and even so, my car held 7.9, so they underfilled. could this lurching be related to the shabby treatment at the first shop?
i'm going to take her in this weekend for an assessment. she recently had a tune-up and was running fine until that horrid oil change.
by the way, i love my car! (had a total harness overhaul less than 30,000 miles ago.) she has about 120,000 miles on her now.
thanks in advance for your comments!
sammy
