New Beru Wires.......
 

I got my new Beru Wires today and installed them. What I found out about the old wire set was that they, too were Beru. I wonder if they are OEM? as the wire sets had a plastic sleeve over each bank of wires. The end caps at the spark plugs were marked Beru. Now I wonder if these were The original wire set on this car.

On the 134-R refrigerant, I was informed today by the PO that in fact it was changed out at an indy MB shop in Glendora, CA. I asked about the seals and old mineral oil being replaced but he didn't know but he said it was expensive when the work was done.

I wonder if the indy shop still has the car in it's computer base, maybe I could get the service records that way. That shop serviced the car up until they parked it in 2003.

Mine had the plastic sheath over each bank too
The rubber was like iron...hard not brittLe

I trieds to cut it off & no way to do it w reg sissors

No way I would think of rethreading the new wires in it
Anyway the shop chucked it & just tied the wires together w those black plastic ties.

Mine may have been original too
they were just marked Germany.

Good wires can last a very long time
Its the connectors that usually delevelop problems
& I suppose if dielectric grease is used & a boot puller is used to change plugs the wires could last 200K

I never got too see the plug end on mine
I guess they were solid wire

Do you know if the Beru are solid wire core?
New wires are made different

I figure mine were old
but I hope I didn't make a mistake w the bosch prem opti coated
& throw away good solid wires...

I just popped a new set on my '91 yesterday. The old OEM ones were copper stranded Beru. They seemed to be fine, but I figured every 17 years whether it needs it or not! But I did save the old ones, along with my old fanbelt!

I wouldn't worry about it. The Bosh are good wires too. And Enrique or one of his guys installed them. I don't know if the Beru are solid Wire or not. I think they are. I wire tied my wires too.
I did have a cut in one of the Dist. Cap plugs on the old set. and one came apart on the spark plug, the end that affixes to the spark plug, inside the metal boots came loose and stayed on the plug. So My wiring probably wasn't the best. I did have a slight miss that I don't hear now. My idle dropped a tish also. More like 750 RPM in park and just barely 600 in gear.

I truly believe that mine were OEM and they are 23 years old, not really hard but the dist. caps rubbers were beginning to crack. I have to do the belts soon too.

So your idle smooth out too?
I haven't checked my exact idle control location
mine may have some down by itself too...

The specs on my car are 600 to 750
but I don't have the elec ICV so when I use the AC
or when the ehgine has been running a while the idle drops below 600
so I might have to turn it up a bit

My dis boots had some cracking on the rubber too
but they held up enough for me to take them off to install the new cap & rotor & I put them back on.

I;m thinking mine were original too 25 yo 196K
guess they were due...

Beru was almost double so I figured w my mileage either would last the duration as time will be the worst wear not mileage.
Rubber is rubber & its going to go before the core anyway
So I figured I could buy almost another new set with the savings.

Just don't want to really have bad inferior wires
Thought the bosch should least be up to running standard

They looked good
connectors were heavy duty
didn't look like a cheap wire set
but who knows what inside

Beru could have changed the core by now too.

Pep Boys sells a spiral wire containing tube that wraps around from side.
I bought one was going to cut it in half & encase the wires on each side
but returned it as I figured the shop would install the correct part & I;d pay them.
Anyway I might just go back & buy it again

its under $5 heat resistant & keeps part of the wires clean.

Do ignition wires get hot?

I noticed mine were not on the wire & boot near distributor cap/
Is this normal?
It seemed to be wire heat as the right side wires 1234 were hotter than the left side 5678 ...is that odd?

Question:

I just changed my sp wires to the berus, and performance is slightly better. In changing the ignition wire, however 2 plastic clips that kept the ignition wire in place, broke - they were brittle and old.

What is everyone using for wire management under the hood? I picked up a pack of cable ties at lowes yesterday, they say they are good to 185 degrees F. I'm afraid these would melt if connected to metal parts under the hood.

Fast lane has the two black wire looms that fit on top of the valve covers. They are around $2.00 each. I used nylon wire ties in the places that the old ties were(they broke).

The wires will pick up engine heat, but they will not heat up on their own.

I'll check into getting some of those...are they in the catalog (I don't see them), or do I ask for them as a special item?

I saw them under engine electrical in the list of parts for my vehicle.

Go to Fastlane (Buy Parts above) and enter you car year and make then choose your model, then go to engine electrical and there is a list on the right side of the page that has your cars parts look through the list for Wire Holder and if they sell it it should be listed there.

as when I saw the oe pair I ordered it & those 2 looked thicker & better made as the 3rd which I still have as I gave the shop the better 2

They had round ball on bottom one ea on side to fit in hole on valve cover

I tried to install them as one of mine was broken
other was fine
but the round ball was too big for the hole.

I noticed on mine someone cut half ball & it fit

I left the pair w the wires
Think they may have used one or used one of there own
& left good orig one on cover

Did yours fit in the round hole of the valve cover?
do you have to cut the ball to fit or just press it in by force?
It looked alot bigger...

Anyway
my car isn't perfect
but I try to do those lil things when I can...
