W124 Water Pump Life

THe first water pump on my 95 E320 went for about 80kmiles. Today at about 165kmiles it is starting to squeek (no leaks yet). Is about 80kmiles/pump about normal?

The water pump on my 124 lasted just over 100,000 miles, then started to leak.

My original water pump lasted 143k miles on the 260e.... just replaced it again at 212k... go figure.... the second was a MB part... this one is aftermarket.

Took 3.5 hours to do...the first time I did one it took 6 hours

'95 E320 Water Pump Removal

The car is apart and I am able to remove only 2 of the 4 10 mm Allan head cap screws that hold the pump to the block. I have been soaking the screws with penetrating oil for 3 days now with no luck.

Has anyone had to cut the heads off the bolts to get the pump off? Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks

Tom, as I recall the water pump bolts for a 1995 E320 are very accessible. An impact wrench would likely break them loose.

Use KROIL as your penetrant.
