When turning right, wheels make squeaky chair noise
You know the typical grandma rocking chair squeek noise -- Yep that's what I hear everytime I turn right. It only happens when I make a right turn and its loud too.
I have cleaned the bearings and replaced all the grease...any other ideas? It does not do it turning left and when the car is cold...only when I have been driving it for a few miles...then it starts. Thanks, |

Best guess:
#1. Ball joints #2. Strut Mount #3. Broken Coil Spring #4. Rear Sway Bar Link #5. Front Lower Control Arm Bushings #6. Front Sway Bar Bushing #7. Body structure damage Have a great day. |
Next best guess: (though those are good ones to check!)
- Check the brake shield, or whatever you call the sheet metal "cover" inboard of the calipers. Mine was doing that. Last weekend I crawled under to have a looksee, and that was the only type material that sorta matched the type of noise, so I bent it inward a bit. Voila! No more noise! FWIW, the PO put wider tires on this car. I'm guessing that might have been a factor. Gerry 92 400E |
This all started when I had both front tires replaced at Pepboys...
Well within the next week. No idea if it is coincidence or not... |
Do you think there's any possibility that maybe they tried to jack the car up using a suspension part as a jack point? The guys at Discount Tire once ruined my steering damper by trying to use it as a jack point. I guess it would be easy enough to do a visual on it from underneath. Sometimes, I think they just shove the jack under there and keep trying until they feel they've hit something solid--like a lower control arm or some other jack point.

There are hardly any points to jack the car up. It is very possible. Maybe I should check for damages tomorrow. That would make very logical sense to me. I mean why else would it suddenly happen?

ps2cho, I'd never take a car to Pep Boys for any work. Too bad you didn't return to Pep Boys as soon as you noticed the noise because it's likely their tech did something to cause the noise. Since you have waited a week or more it will be more difficult to have them accept responsibility for any damage/repair work. In the future you're better off having a MB dealer or tech work on your MB vehicle. I buy tires from Tire Rack and have our local dealer install them because only a MB dealer has the MB 2-piece balance weights.
