Rough week
This week sucks. I got my new waterpump in on monday and started thrashing monday night. Yesterday I completed my work and all seemed fine. No leaks and the car started right up. Then the battery crapped out on me. Now today the water pump is leaking again. I might be an idiot, but I used gasket maker on the water pump instead of the gasket it came with. Should I have skipped th ggasket maker or used both?
|
Why wouldn't you use that gasket that came with it? I would imagine its there for a reason.
|
oh man... you need the o-ring...

on my 124's the water pump has an o-ring rather than a gasket
if you have a gasket rather than an o-ring... take the water pump off and use it.. really don't mean to lecture.... |
Yes I have the gasket. I am an idiot for not using it in the first place. My buddy was helping me and insisted on it as the car already had that instead of a gasket.
|
well, if listed some of my mistakes, we could be here for a couple of hours... it always seems like we make mistakes on the obvious things we should have taken care of..
good luck |
So experts,
should I use just the gasket, or use the gasket and gasket maker to seal the deal? This job is too time consuming a laborus to do three times. |

I always use the gasket and a thin application of sealer on BOTH sides of the gasket and always make sure that BOTH surfaces are clean. I HATE doing a job twice. But I have on many occaisions which all lead to experience NOT to do THAT again.
I hope you didn't reuse the old gasket? that is a no-no too. |
There was no gasket left to re-use.
