no start on 89 300E
Firrst off this is not my own car, it belong to a family member and has been neglected one . I took the car to have tires and brakes put on. ran fine. inspected all fluids only oil wass a quart low and I planned on changing that my self.
On the way back freeway driving 80MPH felt some bucking so slowed down a mile before the off ramp. exiting off ramp engine died and I costed to curb. I made an atempt to restart the car no crank. I checked the code monitor in theengine bay wit KOEO could nly get a nuber 4 terminal to light up? AAA driver suspected alternator had not keep charge to the battery? I am going to exchange batterys is there a way to check the alternator with a DOMM? how do I check the OVR I have hear these go bad as well. I also plan to replace distributor cap and rotor and check spark plugs just got new plug from Mercedes Bosch super HR9Dc are these correct? Thank you: Bob Geco |
The correct plug for this car is a Bosh D9HC (No R) or NGK BP5ES (No R). Yes, you can check the alternator with any type of Volt meter. It should be at least 13.5 VDC above idle.
