Help!! How can i take off the hex key beside fuel distributor on 190E?
 

Got a question:confused::confused:

I bought a hex key repair kit from dealer today, but i don't know how to take off the old one? It seems not screw in.

Any people try replace that one before? Could you give me some hints?

Yeah, those are screws holding the pedestal on, they just don't have any screw slots. The factory manual recommends carefully drilling the heads off,
just don't drill too far and get debris in the fuel distributor.
I think I may have just tapped mine lightly CCW with a punch to unscrew them. Grinding, slotting with a dremel, punch, drill; just find a way to get the head off or make it unscrew.

On my '93 190E 2.3, I took a hacksaw and cut the top off right at the bottom of the ball bearing. I protected the area around the tower so no metal shavings would get into anything. Then, I was able to insert the allen wrench and press down on the spring mechanism and turn it either way to adjust the air fuel mixture. The spring stayed securely in the tower.

The "headless screws" or "rivets" you see holding the tower on the intake are a special Mercedes break away screw. Two new ones should be included in the new tower kit. They break off after you tighten them down to the correct torque, leaving what you see there now. You must find a way you are comfortable with the cut the old tower and mounting studs off. I recommend getting a dremel tool with a cut off wheel for aluminum. It cuts off fairly easily. Just do it being careful to get no filings in the intake below. You dont need to save anything of the old parts, so cut it off and not worry, it is all included in a new tower kit.
Why are you replacing it anyhow? Usually the only reason is a broken adjustment spring inside. If you do replace, consider not putting the metal sealing plug back in the top of the tower so you can get at the adjustment opening if you need. You can put a rubber vac cap over the opening if you are concerned about vac leakage. I have never had any issue with the sealing ball removed.
