I was just wondering if I should change my oil every 5k miles or like what the dealer is telling me - every 10k miles. I have a 2001 CLK and I dont like the idea of changing the oil every 10k miles. I called the service department yesterday and they told me not to bring it in yet, they told me to bring it in when there is 10k miles on the car, I have 5500. What should I do?

Did you do a search on "oil" yet? Needless to say, there's lots of opinions on this subject posted.

If you have purchased and plan to keep the car for years change it often.

If you are leasing and/or plan to keep the car for only 2-5 years, follow Mercedes directions.

If you intend to keep or just lease?
My 1987 300E spark ignition, has 177,000 miles and has yet to have the engine serviced; not even valve stem seals and she does not consume oil between changes.
I change the motor oil and filter every 3500-4000 miles pumping from the top.I use my "El Cheapo Pump".
She has Mobil I 15w50 motor oil.
This is an example of what preventive maintaince returns.
Make your choice.

We need a button link at the top of the forum that says "Click here for questions on OIL" :D:D:D and we can put all the post on one page;)

Spiderman I think you cut & paste that same line everytime you see one of these oil posts:D:D

I don't cut and past just tell it as it has worked for me.
If more owners would do thier oil changes as I have, then there would be more Mercedes Benz engines performing just a little bit as well as mine has.
I,m in total agreement with how many times this subject arises.
The answer is so elementary that the question shouldn't appear.
The answers are in The Owner's Manual.
Type, weight and frequency.
