Please help me to choose the best scanner
I made a research and found the best scanners available that cover most of cars including MB. In this poll I posted four types of scanner. Please vote for the best known one.
Here are the links respectively: 1. AUTOXRAY EZ-SCAN AX6000 plus. http://www.autoxray.com/product_detail.php?pid=94 2. Actron CP9190 Trilingual Elite AutoScanner Pro. http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16317 3. INNOVA® 3140 Scan Tool CanOBD2&1® Kit. http://www.iequus.com/product_info.php?product_id=3140&category_id=1_10_7 4. Mac Tools Perceptor ET1005A. http://www.mactools.com/Mac/Mac+Products/Catalog/Electronics/Scan+Tools |

Not even a single vote?

I will wait for weekend to see the results :)

ZCC, for yourself or like a shop? My brother has a very basic autoxray, and he likes it.
|
For my '95 E320 I made one from an LED, a push button, three banana plugs and a plastic box. But you have to know how to count the flashes. I understand that some mechanics have a problem with that. My cousin could count to ten using his fingers; and when he took his shoes off, he could count to 22. That is, until he had the operation: They removed the extra toes because his shoes didn't fit. It also made that he could now only count to twenty.:o

I have the " Actron " and like it.
Used to have an " INNOVA ", but like the Actron a lot better. |
What do these scanners cost, roughly?
|
Paid about $ 150.00 for my Actron.
|
So, is one like yours not able to read all of the MB codes?
|
This is the one I have:
http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16309 It will read " Generic " codes, i.e. engine/emissions related items. To retrieve Manufacturer-specific codes ( every little detail re. body, abs, transmission, etc ), you would have to spend thousands of dollars. |

Just what do you want the scanner to do? I have an AutoXray but that is just for generic OBDII codes. If you want to scan codes for the transmission, body, interior systems, climate control, abs, airbag etc. you need something more advanced like the Assenmacher (now Programma) Retriever or Baum but those are going start at around $2,000.

You still haven't bought a scanner?
Geez, didn't take me that long to decide if I wanted to marry my girlfriend. ( I did ). :D |
LooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooL
You really made me laugh from my heart. Thank you. I did buy many cheap onces but non of the mentioned scanners and no votes to help me :) |
None of those tools (and I use the term loosely) are scanners. They are OBDII code readers. That means they won't work on OBDI cars and they won't work on anything but generic engine codes. If they give any data it will be OBDII generic which is considerbly different than MB in many cases.
It hard to say they are better than nothing as a little info can be a dangerous thing. They specialize in a little information.... very little. I could diagnose almost nothing with one. But of course if you don't know anything a little can be relatively large. No more help but a great guide to throwing parts. I would suggest bolstering your arsenal with these: http://www.creativedice.com/productinfo.html What you get with these tools is of so little value that Autozone gives it away free. |
STEVEBFL,,,, YOU MADE ME LAUGH AND LAUGH AND LAUGH. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
You are cool. From where did you find that great site? LoL. Thank you heaps :D |
