Greetings from Indiana. I am a new forum member and have a question concerning my 2005 automatic transmission. When it is cold outside and I start the engine and then drive off, usually after stopping at the first stop light or stop sign, when I start out the transmission seems to slip. The car moves slowly and gets up to speed slowly. No significant variation in RPMs. Once it warms up there is no problem. Just when it is cold. This did not occur in the summer weather. W/S setting on the transmission does not seem to make a difference. Car has 12000 miles on it. Any ideas on what might be the culprit? Thanks in advance for your help.

Is this your first time driving in the cool weather?

Is it actually slipping or just holding a gear?

You do know that the car holds low gear for an extended time when cold to heat up the catalytic converter, this ia also the source of the whine sound form the transmission when first driving off when cold.

If you cold test another car that uses this transmission in the same temps to see if it duplicates the issue.

If it is an actual slippage then connecting the transmission to a Mercedes develped specific computer would probably be the next step after making sure all engine hoses for vacuum and electrical are connected.


Crossfires are really beautiful coupes, do you like yours?

If it’s slipping, check the transmission fluid level, dip (tool) stick for the transmission is different then the one used on MB, you need too buy it from Chrysler. I would also check for any fault codes.

fluid level checked. It needs to be exactly at a certian level at a certain temperature. Take it to a Chrysler dealer and have it checked. I believe you have a version of the Mercedes 722.6 transmission.

Steve - Can you discuss in general terms (for those of us that are "trans challenged") the differences in the 722.6 produced by MB vs Chrysler? I for one am curious. There have been previous posters claiming that the Chrysler fluids are the same as in the Mb unit, etc.

Chrysler Crossfire and SRT models use MB SLK running gear, engine, transmission and differential. SRTs are supper charged V6. They use the 722.6 / W5A330 MB transmission.

Chryslers calls them NAG 1, New Automatic Gearbox Generation 1


Dodge Sprinter, Chrysler 300C, Dodge Magnum and some Jeep Cherokees also use the same 722.6 transmissions used in MB vehicles, Chryslers Designation is also NAG 1s. Chrysler 722.6 and Mb 722.6 are the same the only difference is the application. V8, V6 or 4 cylinders


Personally, I don’t like the look of Chrysler Crossfire’s its missing haft it’s REAR.
