Coolant overflow-resovoir tank hoses
The overflow hose from my coolant tank is baked. One of those fabric
covered hoses (English size about 1/2" OD, & 1/4" ID.) I replaced about a foot of it, near the tank, but after a few months, this repair also failed. So, I decided to replace the entire line. The top part, from tank, through firewall to the battery/electronics area, and down to a grommet on the inner fender wall is easy. ....but ! Where does it go from there? It is solid (must be hooked to something) and attempts to undo a rubber grommet and look up from under car, or remove the inner (thin plastic) front-right wheel well interior cover showed nothing of the other end of the hose routing. I'm blind without a chassis manual. Please help, with a few words of how to locate the other end of my overflow line ! |
Believe it or not, it goes to another reservoir.

But how do I access that tank ?

Here's a link to a graphic showing the parts of the coolant system you want to see.

Do these help? On the 124 diesel wagon it is located behind the shroud, that is in the passenger side wheel well.
Our car no longer has the green coolant. |
Many Thanks!
As soon as the weather climbs above freezing, and the snow gets off
the carport, I'll pull the tire and plastic skirt. These photos are a super help !!!!!!!! Thanks again ! OK weather warmer, and job DONE ! The skinny overflow tank is tucked against the fender, almost to the right of a passenger's foot. Even when the wheel well trim is taken out, you still must get under the car to see the bolts. Took it out, emptied (was 1/3 full), and installed new 6mm hose to radiator resovoir. Length was 1 meter. (for those not used to meters, that's 39.37") An easy job, once you located the tank. |
