Starter Replacement for '86 300E
My starter finally quit on me the morning after a ridiculous winter storm. I'm driving the family Saturn at least to get through the week. I tried a couple quick searches, but haven't found many threads on a step by step process. Can anyone direct me to a thread with the a procedure for replacement. Pictures would be a huge help because its just too cold right now to climb under the car.
I would also like to know if anyone has an inexpensive way to get a rebuilt starter. I've heard someone say they took a failed one to AutoZone and they rebuilt it, but my experience with our local stores would make me question their capabilities. I'm no machanic, but I have replaced the water pump, rear axle, alternator, etc.. on on this car. I'd hate to get rid of it, but I need dumbed down instructions if I'm going to fix it. I'm very open to paying someone to help if they have a shop, but I can't afford a true professional right now. The car just isn't worth it. Thanks is advance -Joe |
you can do it..
looks like two nuts to get off the cable and two bolts... you will need to get the car up on stands or ramps I couldn't upload the pdf because it exceeds the sites capapbilities... but it's 15-7100. I would email it to you but i have to leave town in a couple of hours... someone else should be able to do that. |
