Ok so I'm not too smart:
I just drained, flushed and refilled the coolant in a 1991 420 SEL. I ran it for 90 seconds or so but the top coolant hose is still limp, is there something I should know? Thanks for your help [Edited by fredsegal on 07-27-2001 at 08:32 PM] |

90 seconds ain't gonna cut it. You will have to run it longer than that. You may want to run it without the cap on for awhile and fill as needed. If you did not remove the thermostat and fill at the thermostat housing you have have trapped some air which will have to work its way out.

As engatwork stated you may need to bring the engine up to operating temperature. There may be a bleed screw (nipple) on the thermostat housing where you can bleed trapped air. I usually put a short section of clear hose over the nipple and open ever so slightly and watch the air bubbles go up through the coolant in it. After no air bubbles, tighten nipple and you should be good to go.

I just want to be sure I understand this. Even though the hose is limp and the reservoir is full everything is ok? As long as the temp gauge stays in the normal range it's fine?
I was concerned that the water pump was running dry, is that a legit fear? Thanks again |
