W210 M112 Stall & no start

My new-to-me W210 decided to stall earlier today in the middle of rush-hour traffic, and refused to fire (but did crank).

I had to push it out of the main road and onto a side-street where (naturally) it started right up first time I turned the key, and the rest of the journey was uneventful, except for the CEL that's now lit up on my dash.

Is this a typical symptom of an impending CPS failure?

It took a couple of minutes (I had two people in the car with me) to push it along the main road to the next side street, and when I got it there I tried starting it and it fired right up. It was maybe 5-10 minutes between it stalling and restarting again.

It's a CPO'd car and I've barely had it a month (I bought it on 26/12/07) so it's going in for a warranty repair, but they couldn't get me in until Monday - how likely is it that this will be happening again?

My wife took the W210 to work, she reported that the CEL was no longer lit *sigh*

It's still going in to be looked at on Monday.

if you want to sort of verify it to yourself, with the hood shut, run the engine at a higher rpm for a few minutes- it will "heat-soak" the sensor and cause the engine to shut off if it is in fact the cps. It will definitly set a code if not before and illuminate the CEL.

I'll give this a try over the weekend - thanks for the tip!

Will it only happen if the car is stationary? Would the engine shut off if the car is moving?

It can, but usually this is done in park.

Took the car in this past Monday to the dealer where they agreed with me (and everyone here) that the CPS was the most likely culprit.

They gave me a rather nice '07 C230 Sport to drive while it was being serviced, and I picked up my W210 on Tuesday, and so far no more stalling.

*crosses fingers*

Edit: 200th post! woooo!
