Cigarette lighter shorted out, now windows will not work.

1995 E300D. Somehow I managed to drop a small screw into my cigarette lighter while trying to install a satellite radio unit on the dash. Zap, out goes the lighter and radio. Easy enough fix, presumably replace the fuse...wasn't blown. Replaced it anyway. Radio works, lighter outlet does not. In addition, now the I am getting no response from the elec window controls (no issues prior to this). I plan to pull the components apart to see if I fried the cigarette lighter unit, but how would this impact the windows, and why wouldn't a fuse just blow?

I have the same issue but when I install a new fuse with the car on it just keep blowing fuses. I even unplug the lighter and it blows fuses.

Anyone have any ideas?

That's a W210 Chassis, right?

First thing that comes to mind is a fried wire - in this case probably a common ground. Check ALL your fuses, and give them a spin in their sockets. Those old MB fuses can look just fine when in fact they're not making contact on the ends due to oxidization.

If you give me some specifics of your car, I can probably look up the wiring diagram in WIS.

It is a 92 300D 2.5 turbo with a W124 chassis. The wiring diagrams would be great.

Thanks!!

Ummm.... Actually, I was asking the author of this thread what chassis HIS car was, but if I have time I'll look up yours too.

The author of the thread started it a year ago and has a W124 also. I have the same issue so I revived the thread. I do have a W210 but it does not have a problem. I just bought the 92 W124 which is the vehicle of concern.
