verify part # of diff for limited slip
I ordered some diff fluid for my limited slip. It came in today but nowhere on the bottle does it reference that it is for a limited slip. The part number is 001989170310. Can anyone verify that this is the correct stuff?
I thought it would say somewhere that it is the special stuff for a limited slip. Thanks Tom W |
MB Hypoid Gear Oil (85W-90)
MB Part No. A001 989 17 03 10 Meets sheet 235.7 specification Hypoid Gear Oil *1 except SL65 AMG (all model variants) except SL55 AMG, CLS55 AMG, and CLS63 AMG equipped with AMG Performance Package For front (where applicable) and rear axle differentials *1: Please see your Mercedes-Benz Center regarding applications We use: http://www.redlineoil.com/products_gearlubricants.asp?categoryID=6 |
So, are you saying that is the correct lube for my limited slip or not?
Sorry, I am not trying to be obtuse. Tom W |
You didn't even state what car you have, but within the noted exceptions it should work fine. If you encounter chattering on corners you might wish to add a friction modifier.

This is for my 84 280e dedicated autocrosser. We are building up a limited slip for it using the carrier from a 190 16v.
That blurb above seems to indicate it is for all mb diffs. The tag on mine says use only special diff fluid (or words to that effect in german). Are you saying that mb specifies limited slip appropriate lube for all their diffs? Tom W |
The MB fluid will be fine but you might wish to use this: http://www.redlineoil.com/products_gearlubricants.asp?productID=38&subCategoryID=15&categoryID=6
The difference is that without friction modifiers the clutches will stick. Not great for street driving but good for the track. Both of those Redline products are synthetic. |
Are you speaking of the redline additive? I already have the mb diff lube.
