I got the parts, but I don't know which seal is which. Half of them are black rubber with metal outer shells and the other half are brown rubber with matching brown rubber outer shells. Which are intake and which are exhaust? The ones I've taken out of the car both look alike.

O.K., the ones I take out of the car are not exactly alike. One exhaust seal was green and the intake was black. But neither of the old ones had a metal outer shell.

Also, how on earth do I check the timing on this car. People say there are marks on the cam gear to align with a mark on the bearing tower. These are supposed to be on the back side of the gear right? I have a little slash ("-") mark on the bearing tower but no mark on the gear to match it. On the OUTER edge of the gear there is an arrow (">"), but shouldn't there be a mark on the gear on the inner edge to line up with the "-" mark?.

Frustrated and calling it a night.

I forgot to tell you that you gave to turn the engine by hand and watch for the timing mark to come arouind. Best way is to put a 27mm deep socket on crankshaft nut and turn a little at a time with a ratchet and watch for the mark.

The marks on the cam cam washer and cam stand are sufficient for reassembly but not for calculating the timing. This has to be done off the valves with a dial indicator.

The intake valve has the black seal. The seals of other collors are usually silicone hightemp for the exhaust.
