I have replaced a fuel distributor on my 1987
300e,The car will only run at a high idle and I have to push down a little on the distributor actuator/air intake? I get fuel to the distributor and I have fire. is there a vacuum problem,do I need to disconnect the battery to reset the computer,or is there something I am missing in the posses. confused. |

A vacuum leak is a good probability. Do this test: remove airfilter, have a helper crank the car, gently push the airflow meter til the engine runs smooth. Have the person cranking tell you how fast it is running with you giving the fuel. If you are above 1500 rpm then you surely have a leak.
The concept here is that air is what determines engine speed. If you give it enough fuel to run you verify how much air is entering. If the speed is less then you haven't set your base mixture adjustment.

Did you replace the o-ring at the base of the fuel distributor and grease it so it would seat?
Also, there is a hose on the bottom of the plenum that likes to blow off. the other end connects to the idle motor.
