Just got home from a weekend at Summit Point with the SEC. All in all, the car did pretty well, since this was my first track event since 2005, I had to relearn a lot of things but as the weekend progressed I learned how to get 20 minutes worth of track time out of the stock pads before they would start to fade. Only damage to the car seems to be a noisy RF wheel bearing that popped up on the way home...and I burned all the way through a set of almost new front pads in two days :D

It is so cool to see someone really putting an SEC through its paces. You're just having too much fun, it's great.

Told you those pads would get hammered;-)

Time for some porterfield R4's!

You even left the fog lights in..damn dude...!

We'll have you going a LOT faster and stopping a LOT better next time out:)

Yeah I realized that I forgot to pull those and the dust shields, I'm going to look into making ducts to route air from the fog holes to the rotors. Time to step up to the later brakes, I'm going to make some calls today and try and locate the parts.

The RF wheel bearings had all kinds of metal bits in the grease and the race was pretty pitted in a few spots, also managed to rip the boot on the left ball joint too :D

Gotta cut down on flex still too- there are dents in the top of the inner wheel housing where the upper control arms were hitting it.

Next thing you will be gutting the interior and putting in a roll gage!
I am jealous!

Brakes are over rated.

looks like great fun, I am contemplating taking the 450 into some SCCA parking lot fun
BTW - drove my 3/4 ton dodge without brakes, for a good 3-4 miles , you can do things without em, but it's not recomended

Brakes certainly do make driving less exciting . . . .

since the brake pad warning light is on in all your cars, I don't doubt you believe that.

John,
Every time I see that car I gotta go have a run at Bouquet Canyon with mine. I had to go down to the Valencia MB dealer yesterday to pick up my new tumbler and valet key for the SD. I live 3 miles from the top of Bouquet Canyon. 24 miles of nice mountain twists and turns. Not a road course, but still way too much fun in my SEC. Yesterday was down and back that road as quickly as I could. I'm getting better at this and Mariah is more than willing. Ran flat away from a Mazda Miata coming home. Powered through a couple real scary turns and I never saw the Miata again until I got onto the straighter stretches near the top. It was WAAAAY behind by then.

Going down there was no one on the road but me and the road crew working on the uphill lane about halfway down. Fun, Fun, Fun. Was able to keep Mariah between the marker bumps a lot better this time, didn't hit one.

I was jazzed when I got home! YEEEHAAAWWWW!

Got my big tires today so I played around with getting them on the car a bit- it was quite a chore to get them on the skinny 8" rims! now I have 275/40/17 Kumho V700's at all 4 corners, which is a nice improvement over the BFG 205/55/16 R1's I had run previously.

Still trying to figure out a way to get the fenders out of the way, already shimmed them out as much as I can. anyone got a set of widebody ones to sell? :D

I cleaned up my new calipers while waiting for the rest of the brake parts to arrive and thought what the hell, I'll paint them :)

Also finally found an actual AMG stamp on something finally! when I pulled off the lower body trim to shim the fenders, I found it (pic below):

First a-x with the new wheels and tires. went pretty well, and nothing rubbed. still need to get used to them and stiffen up the car some more.
