300 SD Euro Headlight Plastic Rim

I was trying to replace the headlight in my 85 300SD. (the low beam was burned out) I think I have the euro style headlight that is encased totally in glass. When I got the glass cover off, I had trouble getting the headlight out of the reflector. The headlight is rectangular and the reflector is round. The rectangular headlight wouldn't come out of the reflector because it was glued in place with what looks like silicon caulk. Seems very strange.

Anyway, I got the headlight out by cutting the caulk but in the process, broke the little plastic rim that goes around the headlight and separates it from the fog light. I can't seem to find any reference to it on any of the parts sites so I was wondering if I have some kind of strange kluge and need to look elsewhere. Or if not, what is this rim called and where can I get one.

Thanks,

Dave

Replace from inside?

Maybe I have too many (cars) and too little (memory) but don't all euro-spec headlight bulbs get removed from the back/inside?

Sorry I'm not helping but I can't visualize what you're going through

Regards,
Kevin

Yes, if its a euro headlight, theres a cover on the back that comes off.

If you have a sealed beam unit, then that is the US version, which comes out from the front.

Thanks for the help. There is a door on the back that comes off which exposes the connection. But on mine, there is a sealed beam headlight that won't come out through the back. It is glued in with caulk to the reflector. I think someone wanted to put in euro headlights but wanted to use sealed beam lights so they jerry rigged it. I guess I will have to Jerry rig it again if I don't want to buy all new units.

There is a plastic trim piece that separates the headlight from the fog light under the glass. That is the piece that was so brittle that it just fell apart. I want to replace that.

Thanks,

Dave
