A clean engine bay of a 12-year old car
The credit goes to my PO. I just keep it up.
http://s245.photobucket.com/albums/g...e/IMG_1461.jpg I do not use wax, but degreaser and then glas cleaner. http://s245.photobucket.com/albums/g...e/IMG_1462.jpg Almost all visible and accessible engine parts can be touched without letting the hands get dirty. http://s245.photobucket.com/albums/g...e/IMG_1463.jpg Even the hood inside is clean. http://s245.photobucket.com/albums/g...e/IMG_1464.jpg So I cannot complain :) :) |
That is clean!

Did he do his own work?
I keep the engines of my cars that clean for the simple reason that I work on them, and don't want to work on a greasy filthy mess. |
I got the same thing from my PO on the SL AMG. He owned the car from 1983 to 1997, it was always in a garage, and he never drove it in the rain. During all that time, he never cleaned the engine bay, and neither have I. Thank God for some previous owners!

That's great. I try to keep mine clean, too, so I can tell if anything's leaking. Plus, I just like it to be clean everywhere. That is impressive.

Isn't that the way we all are sometimes? Can't see the forest for the trees? But MAN! Those are some clean engine bays! |
I have had the car since 4 weeks, and had coolant and ATF flushed, filtered the wiper water as well but did not know that the brake fluid needs changing too.

Benz recommends every 2 years.. Short $$$$ preventive maint that pays off.... I owned a Service Station and guys would come in with the shinniest, cleanest, polished cars and I would pop the hood to check the oil and see the dirtiest brake fluid you could imagine.... ..or they would be down 2 quarts of oil and they'd say.."That's OK , I have some at home.." ..well, I hope you make it home, then...... The difference between a good used car dealer and a slick used car dealer is the good one changes the brake fluid AND washes the engine bay..the slick one washes the engine bay. |

Here is the SDL's, its filthy and in sore need of a cleaning. I usualy go nuts in the spring and through the season it gets dirty until I put it away in the fall.
I did run that intake manifold through a parts cleaner and sealed that leak, so no more oil!:D |
Mr. Dalton,
since the brake fluid system is recirculating, is it of any use changing the fluid in the reservoir several times, each time after some driving, thus each time replacing the old fluid with new one until it gets clean? (just to avoid bleeding) Thanks |
The real crap winds up in the calipers and that is where all the damage takes place..what you see in the reservoir is dis-coloration from the real crap at the end of each line, so you want to bleed off each caliper.
I use a clear platic line over the bleeders and chase out the old fluid with new fluid from the res. You will see the new clear fluid through the clear line when the old has been bleed off. There is no pumping brakes or any of that stuff..it is just a simple matter pushing the old out with the new [ pressure bleed from res]. Just watch the res does not get too low to allow air into the system.. You will be glad you did it when you see what comes out of the calipers..they get pretty nasty............... |
