Not returning to first gear??? Please help!

Hello, I have a 1987 190E 2.3 16 Valve MB and it's been having some hesitation problems, also it doesn't seem to be returning to first gear when I come to a stop. Then when accelerating it's jumpy and kinda slow to get going, does anyone have a picture of their throttle valve cable or kickdown cable??? And it has to be specifically for the 16 valve because the basic model is totally different.
Does anyone know if they made a book for the 16valve?? i have the 2.3 book but it doesnt show hardly anything for my car so we have nothing to go off of as to what things are supposed to look like....So please please please somebody help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is that car supposed to return to first gear? Maybe the 16V is different?

I believe the regular cars have a kickdown switch under the accelerator.

I'm not sure if it is supposed to go back to first? The guy i have working on it says it should, but neither of us know a whole lot about this car. And i believe it does have a kickdown switch under the accelerator......it was my brothers car before and sat for 4 years then i took it over, he said it always drove that way so, perhaps it's just like that...but if not i better find out before it messes up something!

The W124s of that era all started in 2nd.

really? isn't the 2.3 16v a w201? or does that still apply??

I think Kent was just suggesting that, since 124s start out typically in second, perchance the your 201 does as well.

Ohhh ok, well that's a good thought, thanks, well this gives me a little direction then, thank you
