Ignition/Lock Removal - 1984 190 2.3
I removed the panel under the dash and I can hardly see (let alone access) the ignition /lock unit. Should this be accessed from the top after removing the instrument panel? If so how do you remove the instrument panel? I have removed several W123 instrument panels, but this is my first W201 and I know nothing.

I have never removed mine, but have replaced the headlight switch, which is at about the same level on the other side. This was done by removing the lower panel.
If you need to remove the instrument cluster, it is the same procedure. However, you will have to remove the lower panel and get your hand up behind the cluster to disconnect the speedo cable. Then push the cluster from behind; if it has never been removed it will take a bit of effort. I bent a couple of pieces of coathanger wire to make a small "L" and got that behind the cluster surround from the front (at about 8 o'clock and 2 o'clock and pulled it out.
