1983 380 sec fuel pressure regulator
 

I'm told I need a fuel pressure regulator for my 1983 380 sec. It has a high idle and lacks power, it does not want to go when accelerated.

Where is the fuel pressure regulator and how difficult is it to replace? I'm told the part cost 219.00 from napa is that fair.

My 1990 300e has a very low idle and wants to die at stops, also it takes a couple of cranks to start. I've changed the fuel filter and cleaned the throttle body any other suggestions.

The fuel pressure regulator on the 1983 380SEC is part of the fuel distributor.
VERY rare failure.

Thanks for the reply so soon. Any suggestions on the problem. I bought the car on ebay about a month ago and found repair receipt and it stated runs and idles rough D&A.. checked timing, ok. Diagnosed and replaced bad vacumn valve inline from pressure regulator to manifold. Vacumn ok now but engine still running too lean. Performed fressure test at regulator, too high. Removed regulator, cleaned and adjusted. Pressures ar normal now. Runs well. If condition reoccures, replacement of regulator is recommended, also I was wrong on the year of the 380sec it is a 1984.

83 or 84 380 have 2 pressure regulators. The system fuel pressure regulator is in the fuel dist. Then there is the control pressure regulator bolted to the front of the intake manifold. Some places it is called a warm up regulator. Its purpose is to reduce the control pressure when the engine is cold which makes it run rich and increase the control pressure when the engine is warm to lean it down. A common problem is a restriction in the inlet to the control pressure regulator or no power to the electrical connector. It takes a special fuel pressure guage to check the operation of this control pressure regulator. Now I'm not sure which pressure regulator you are refering to but if you will explain how the runs both cold and warm maybe I can add more to the subject.

Those gold round cans with vacuum lines are not pressure regulators but pressure dampers.

They are there to dampen fuel pressure surges. Not to regulate pressure.
