Do the viscous fan clutch bolt and the belt tensioner bolt turn clockwise or counter clockwise?...and how tight shold they be? And what does the tall "ADJUSTMENT LOOKING" nut connect to and do:confused:? The one on the vehicle that I'm working on is just dangling.
Your help is appreciated.

All the bolts you are inquiring about are standard thread (righty-tighty/lefty-loosey). The belt tensioner adjuster is to set the proper belt tension with the tensioner pulley nut loose. Once proper tension is set the pulley bolt is tightened. From your description it appears the tensioner is shot.

more info please on tensioner

How tight should theses be? I mean I crack off the "special tool" ear for viscous clutch bolt removal. And do you undo the 19 mm tensioner bolt before the allen head bolt? Does the tall adjuster bolt connect to the tensioner at the bottom? Thanks in advance.

I meant to say you need to loosen the 19MM belt tensioner nut, not the pulley. The adjuster connects to the tensioner shaft, thats why you need to loosen the nut first.

The fan clutch can be removed by placing an allen wrench or stiff wire with a hook into the hole/recess on the clutch to keep it from turning while loosening.

jvoodoo, loosen the 19mm bolt on the belt tensioner a turn before loosening the adjustment rod. The pointer will move as you loosen the tensioner. If you already attempted to loosen the tensioner without first loosening the 19mm bolt chances are you destroyed the belt tensioner and need to replace it. In fact, if it's old you may need to replace it anyway. As mentioned use an allen wrench or a piece of wire (with a 90 degree bend) to secure the fan clutch when loosening the fan bolts.

thank you

I understand about the hole and the allen wrench,...I cracked the ear off the holds the allen wrench in place so that hole and allen wrench thing are not an option for me. The viscous fan clutch bolt is freakin tight...so tight that I broke the special tool groove.

I understand now how it works. Thanks for your help.
