Hood Releasing on its own! W124
 

Hi -

I have an '86 300E, and recently the hood has been popping on its own. :eek: I can't figure out why it's doing it, either.

It seems to release at freeway speeds and above mostly. The safety is still catching it, but holy cow.

Has anyone else had this problem? Do you have any suggestions for places to look?

This sounds like the latest auto gimmick: hoods that open automatically - along w/winshield wipers that turn on when sensing moisture, and doors that close themselves. But seriously, I would check the latch & catch. They should be at 90 degrees and flat w/each other. If not, they could be worn, allowing the latch to slide. Also check the tension of the spring. It should be quite strong.
