Intercooler leak?

Hi, I have an E320CDi, I have had a couple of experts look at my low power problem coupled with quiet a lot of smoke from the exhaust. The MAF sensor was changed by the first expert and now the 2nd expert is on the trail of a possible leak in turbo boost pressure, possibly caused by a leaking intercooler.
It looks like a major job to take it out. Anyone had this problem please?
TJ

I really know nothing, but unless there is some physical evidence of damage to the intercooler it would seem an unlikely item to fail.

I think I would look for another opinion unless it were covered by warranty.

I'm assuming you're talking about the in-line OM648, six cylinder, right? From your description it sounds like the EGR valve and/or engine mangement software could be to blame. This issue has been around for a few years, in fact it's covered in a Dealer Technical Bulletin. Make sure one of your experts checks it out before they start guessing, at your expense.
