When did MB introduce 134a?
What was the first year that Merecedes-Benz started using 134a a/c refrigerant as origional equipment? 1994?
|
I called the MBUSA 800 (1-800-for-MERC) number with that very question when I was shopping for a new used car; the guy said that '92 and newer have the 134a refrigerant. they are amazingly helpful and knowledgeable at that number.

Yes, I remember seeing a '92 124 car with R134.
Have a great day, |
My 92 300E has R12. I believe when the law passed it took effect the 93 model year, even though some companies began sooner. Mother's 92 Volvo has R12, but a friend's 93 Volvo has R134. My 300E has a very slight leak I believe, but after a charge is working beautifully. Plan to have it repaired over the winter, and will probably convert over then due to the fact it's around $60 a lb here in Dallas. Found it for $35 a lb in Arkansas, but not worth the drive really.

Our '92 300 had R12 in it... now converted.

MB has changed many things in mid-model year. It could be that this change came DURING the '92 model year. The only way you will know about this particular car is to look.
|
The first 1992 MB with R134a was the W140 chassis, the W124(except V-8's) & R129 chassis got R134a in 1993. The 400E & 500E did have R134a in 1992. The W201 chassis never got R134a from the factory.

Either my memory is not correct and it was a '93 or I wasn't paying close attention and it was a conversion.
Have a great day, |
My 93 300E2.8, which I purchased new in December, 1992, had R134a from the factory. Still got the car, never been recharged or added to.

92 400E R134 from factory

My '92 (6/92 build date) 500E got 134a as factory fill. As did my 7/92 300D 2.5 turbo.
