Small Black Box w/ 2 fuse holders...

1 Attachment(s)
Its on the left shock tower behind the shock top mount and to the inside of the fusebox/relay panel.
There are 2 fuse holders inside ( I found only 1 with a white 8 am fuse installed when I opened it).
What is it? couldn't find squat in benzbible
Is white 8 amp fuse correct?
Should both fuse holders be filled, if so what amperage?

Inquiring minds want to know...

..and this is ?????

Yeah, Stoney, Arthur, in his ever so subtle way, is asking WTF car do you have?? It is not in your profile or elsewhere here. Looks sorta like a 124 103 to me but cannot really tell from the single photo.

More info provided and you will get a ton of input.

Arthur Dalton 04-06-2008 08:51 PM

That's right ..you want a CORRECT answer , you give a model/chassis..

Do you have any idea how many DIFFERENT circuits are run off of aux fuse circuits which are entirely dependant on Model/Year/Chassis????

I will be more than happy to help anyone by loading their Chassis CD and getting Full Schematic details, fuses, circuits or anything else they need, but I am not going to GUESS which one.
Common sense..

fuses

On most models that aux fuse holder is for the alarm system. Only one fuse holder is used, the other is a spare.

Stoney 04-06-2008 09:22 PM

Try asking a question not just making a remark

If you had asked "year/model?' I would have answered 92 300E but your so called question was more of either a me too or a comment...NOT a question. Am I supposed to fathom what is in your brain when you cannot write what you mean? I don't think so.

Since the common book does not cover it, neither does Haynes or the SAfrican book and I was unable to find a detail on Startek -I posted...and from what I have seen in several engine bay shots the same box is on all 124 chassis in the same or close locality.

It does not bear a part # so I couldn;t even track it thru Startek (same with the stupid phone electronics-Not much data as it was a dealer installed item but there should be a schematic to follow).

As Mr. Martin used to say

"Wellll Excuuussse ME "

Now go pat yourself on the back and get a life.

Thanks rocky

At least you know how to answer without acting like one of Team MB World Police.

That is what I asked....you simple had to finish my question with " it's a "92 300E " ...Am I supposed to fathom your chassis???
The point being that YOU benifit from listing your model much more than the forum does..most Tech will pass on a post w/o that basic info b/c they know they can not give you a correct answer due to the many different systems and yearly production changes , even in the same vintage chassis....
RR made a good attempt, but without that info , it is just a guess.

That is correct..it is the same box, EXCEPT it is USED for different applications, depending on which CHASSIS and YEAR you have.

<<It does not bear a part # so I couldn;t even track it thru Startek (same with the stupid phone electronics-Not much data as it was a dealer installed item but there should be a schematic to follow).>>

Yes , there is a schematic and now that we know which model you have , we can bring it right up on screen for ya and it will plainly show us what circuits Benz has decided to use this 2 fuse aux box for on THAT particular chassis.

<<As Mr. Martin used to say

"Wellll Excuuussse ME ">>

Mr Martin is "Excused"

<<Now go pat yourself on the back and get a life.>

Have one, but thank you for sharing such Wisdom...

While I have your Scematic up, we may as well get right to it for ya...

Power Distribution:
Schematic 124.0/.1/.2
Revision # 1-as of 1992 year models: **[ Please note the revision date]

Aux. Fuse Holder - R22/f1 & f2

F22/2- 16Amp -Optional heated Seats
F22/1- 8 Amp - CTEL

As one can see, The R22 was used for these funtions as of 1/92 on 124 chassis, but was used for other funtions on the pre-92 year models. And R22/1 was never intended as a spare fuse compartment/holder.

I hope this helps answer some of the questions you have querried about and may help you in understanding the importance of yr/model for future post.

Question(s) for AD

I stumbled into the end of this one: (Thread HiJack)

From 04diesel 's travails with his wiring on the '92 124.128,

I learned that some entity had replaced my 30Amp (strip) fuse for MY blower motor with a 40 Amp automatic resettable breaker.
[I'm going to replace it with a 30 Amp fast blow fuse]

Question #1. Is the ,outside the fuse box, auxiliary location of the Blower Fuse(Strip 30 Amp)
situated in the wiring such that the Blower Resistor is also
provided protection from the Blower motor "Going South"? If not,is it possible
to "Fuse" the Blower Resistor (and still have it work) to protect it from the
Blower?

And from Arthur's picture,
My lack of Part number 201 540 03 50,with cover number 123 545 04 46.
'Both of these (the fuse holder and cover) are available and I would like to
use them to "Fuse" the Compressor Clutch and the Auxiliary Water Pump Motor.

Question #2 will the Auxiliary Fuse Holder #201 540 03 50 stand more than 8 or 16 amp(s) fuses?

Thanks!

OK
Using Chassis 124.128/1990 schematic :CC controls

Question#1
There are No blower resistors..the speed is controlled via a variable Voltage Regulator [ N26], which gets it's trigger voltage from the Control Panel [ 2-9v/dc]. This regulator is downstream from and protected by the 30A strip fuse and fusing it seperate would not protect it b/c the part that goes on these is the switching power transistor, which carries the full load of the blower on the ground side of the circuit [ it is of a Switched Ground circuit design, meaning the Red side of both Blower and Regulator are always HOT.]
The trigger side of this regulator is nil draw , so nothing gained by fusing it seperate .[ it is fused from CP anyway]
If one suspects high blower draw, the correct diagnosis would be to bridge the 30A [ or open the circuit there] and install an ammeter, looking for 25A on high fan or defrost CP position.
If the draw is high, the suspect is blower bearings or brushes. If in spec., I would just replace the strip and hardware for the holder, as they are what degenerate to create poor conductivity.
Question # 2 , I would be more concerned with the wire gauge to that fuse holder than the holder itself..I would not excede 25 A fuse and would use only bronze/copper ...

Thanks!

Thank You Mr. Dalton!

I also copy and will comply with your request.
